My First Try At Making Onigiri

Amanda has been bugging me to make Onigiri for her to bring to school for recess ever since she saw Huiting bringing to school her "爱心參" specially made by her mummy.....  Hmmmm....  I've only got 1 daughter...  so what to do?....  learn how to make lor....

So I bought all the ingredients, went to google on recipes and steps etc and tried making it for the very first time....  We started quite late after dinner and by the time we finished making, it was almost 11pm....
ingredients....  sushi rice, crab meat with mayo (apparently i cut them into the wrong size), tuna mayo... and i bought seasoned vinegar for the sushi rice...
amanda wanted to try rolling the rice into balls...  so i made her wash her hands with dettol and then try it... we made only a few balls, which in the end we ate them all on the very night....
can you guess whose hand is on the left and whose on the right?...  apparently amanda can roll a much nicer round ball than me...  what a shame...  look at her ball on the right picture...  perfect isn't it?!

After a few attempts, I gave up and decided to use the moulds to make my onigiri as I felt it was more hygienic this way....  So we asked Kakak to take out the moulds, get us plastic gloves and I started pressing the rice into the moulds using a small spoon....  haha...  much more hygienic this way!
don't you think the effect is much better this way?
packed for amanda to bring to school the next day...
we decided to pack for huiting as we know she loves japanese food...  hope she enjoyed the onigiri....

Amanda told me she passed to Huiting before assembly and a few of her friends saw and said "Wow, sushi so cute!!  So good one...  Can I have some too?"....  Guess what her reply to them was?  She said a flat "NO"....  so bad right....

Amanda told me she enjoyed her recess time very much, and she didn't share any of hers with her friends...  but she feedbacked to me that the rice had turned a little hard....  She told me she was worried about Huiting's onigiri as she didn't bring it down for recess so by the time she ate it at night, it may have gone bad or turned into "stone"....  haha...  Amanda's so cute to worry about all these....
amanda looking so happy with her 爱心参......

Overall, the onigiri looked reasonably good *coughs coughs*.....  Tasted ok too...  BUT a pity that the rice hardened the next day when we ate it....  AND....  also, the seaweed changed colour the next day!!  ARGHH!!!

How come it doesn't happen to the sushi or onigiri that we buy from the shops?  Where and what did I do wrongly?  Was it the vinegar?  Or was my rice texture too hard?....  Can somebody please tell me?????

Haiz....  I must try it another time....
