Taipei Day 1

Two Mummies decided to reward themselves after coaching their kiddoes for their SA2 exams...  so off we went to Taiwan immediately the next day after their papers.  It has been a while since my sister and I went on a holiday together...  I recall our last "ladies only" trip was around 2003 when we went to Korea for our shopping and spa retreat....

My very first trip to Taipei, Taiwan and I thoroughly enjoyed myself very much!!!
early in the morning at 5am... i was surprised that amanda was able to wake up to see us off...  it's usually very difficult to get her to wake up...  but as you can see, she was still half asleep in this photo here...  :))
our flight, sq876 departing tat 8.35am...  flight duration is approximately 4hrs 35mins...
waiting for our luggage at the belt...
our hotel lobby...  we stayed at caesar park hotel (this was previously hilton hotel)...
spa services in this hotel...
one section of the lobby... i realised that i forgot to take a picture of the other section of the lobby....
our room number
2 queen-sized beds.....
view from our room...  this hotel has excellent location as it is linked to taipei mrt station and railway station and is also linked to so many malls...  plus this mrt station is the interchange station so you can take from here to all directions...  hmmm..  good choice deb!
i love the weather...  18 deg cel..  absolutely perfect!...  we were initially worried about being affected by typhoon megi but luckily we were not affected at all...
pineapple tarts with compliments from hotel

i like the network i was on....  台湾大哥大....  haha...
food alleys behind our hotel...  so convenient...  just 1 minute away...
scallion cake, super yummy when hot...
signages at the train station...  by the way, i just realised from my friend that there is this mall at shin kong that is supposedly the largest mall in taipei west...  hmm... must visit the mall during my next trip...
our trip "tickets"....  chips!
we decided to take a train to shilin market since it's only a direct train (no need to change since we are at the interchange)... and only a few stops away...  at the same time it was a good experience for us...  but omg, can you see the friday evening crowd??!!
i was amazed to see such a cute mini door and decided to take a photo of it...  only to realise from my sis that singapore has this too...  haha...  i'm so suaku....
hmm..  so this is how shilin night market looks like...  i was a little surprised actually!
oh my... so much food... how and where do we start from?
i was attracted to these white bittergourd....

coffin bun...  my sis asked me to try this but i decided not too....  inauspicious!...  lolz!!!
first stop...  orh'lua jian....  taiwanese fried egg oysters...  still prefer singapore fried egg oysters cos this is a little sweet....
stinky toufu....  mmm....  heavenly....  i tried this once in geylang 15 years ago and this is my second time trying it... and i luv luv luv it!
stinky? smelly?...  actually not really la....  i was just doing this for fun...  i love the smell actually...  hahaha!!!...  am i weird?
we cleared everything, with me finishing all the stinky toufu cos my sis doesn't like it....
bittergourd juice next!...  i had it with pineapple while deb had it with honey...
deb was attracted to these sausages and wanted to try them as they smelled too good to resist...  mmm...  we tried the black pepper sausage....
finally succumbed to this....  this stall has very long queue most of the time...  by the way, chow yuen fatt was here before too...  :))
we tried curry, pork floss and peanut flavours....
spicy chicken cutlet...  similar to singapore's shilin xxl chicken...  and look at the queue...  it's always so long....
omg! look at how much food we packed to savour in our hotel room...
the taiwanese are really creative when naming their food... this is called "twins"...  haha...
streets of shilin shopping area...
hand painting the hello kitty

(right photo) look at the woman's "hat" on her head...  it's actually made of paper and looks like a lantern (can you see those hanging on the right?)
love the way they do their promotions...  see they got their staff to dress as an angel...
last view of shilin before we left... taken from mrt station...
see this sign on the floor?...  they have a waiting zone for fenale passengers at night...  how thoughtful...  we don't have it here in singapore...  or is it, singapore is too safe that we don't need this?.... hmmm.....
poster on the wall...  area monited by camera...
our supper...  we decided to stop by the bubble tea shop to try their bubble...  how can we not try taiwan bubble tea when we are in taiwan?....  wow, so much and we couldn't finish....  ended up saving the 3 rolls for next day's breakfast...  and we couldn't finish it too, cos we decided to save our stomachs for more yummy 小吃....

That wraps up Day 1 of our Taipei trip...  WOW!!!  Never expected Taipei to have so much nice food....  and I'm loving this place...  In fact, I feel Taiwan has got much more nicer food than Hong Kong and the people here are so warm and friendly....  Oooohh.....    Can't wait for Day 2!!!

Good night!
