This BBQ at home to celebrate Father's Day holds very much sentimental value to us... Firstly, this BBQ set was given by my good friends Rosie, Christoper, Patrick & Jenny 13 years ago when we first shifted into this house... but can you believe we are only opening the box now, after 13 years!!! Sentimental also because this is the first time we are having a BBQ in our house after so many years... Hence we decided to have the "opening ceremony" just with the 3 of us... All other BBQs can come later.... :))
By the way, this BBQ was an impromptu one which was decided only at 2pm the same day when we were brainstorming where to go for Father's Day dinner, when Daddy came up with this ingenious idea of having a home BBQ. We quickled fixed up the set, rushed to Fairprice Finest after fixing to shop for the food, charcoal and tongs... and returned home at 4pm all excited to prepare food for BBQ...
figuring how to fix the bbq set.... and it's finally ready...
amanda helping to marinate the chicken wings while kakak prepared other stuff... daddy was busy starting the fire, while mummy was busy taking pictures.... hahaha!!!
It was quite a feast considering that there were only 4 of us... We had chicken wings, satay, otah, lamb shanks, mussels, sausages, corns and sweet potatoes... the lamb shanks were delicious but quite expensive at S$7 per piece...
daddy took a while to start the fire but in vain... thank goodness we had kakak who has experience starting a fire... by the way, we bought the special charcoals which didn't require any starters at all... interesting how charcoal has evolved...
amanda and kakak were responsible for the bbq and both of them stood there watching over the fire throughout the whole bbq...
eating and BBQing at the same time...
daddy and i idled throughout the entire bbq leaving all the work to kakak and amanda... anyway, both of them enjoyed doing it... hehe...
(left) daddy enjoying himself.... (right) taking a break for her food...
and finally, BBQing the sweet potato and corns... can you see the ash collected at the bottom of the pit? we later used it as fertilisers for the plants...
We had a really enjoyable and meaningful very own family Father's Day celebration this year... It was fun and relaxing having a BBQ in your own home and the entire BBQ lasted 5 hours as it ended around 10.30pm... Ahhh.... Sense of satisfaction....
